This EP almost didn't happen this year.

It started with the track "Gentle-humans" and then it grew over the course of last week. The most last minute EP.

The themes and textures were heavily inspired by "Roma" music. I was reading a book this year called "Princes Amongst Men" by Garth Cartwright that introduced me to the music of many accomplished folk musicians. The rich kazoo textures are meant to sound like a group of open air horn players (kinda like the ones I hear around Pilsen). The rich percussion textures are also reflect this open air feel. Accordion, guitar and toy piano are used to evoke the feeling of being in a room with folk musicians playing live.

In searching for the sound this year the question kept coming up about "how do you recreate the sound of holiday music without the deliberate use of jingle bells and ho ho ho's?". I decided it was somewhere within the celebratory energy. Therefore the choice of using gypsy inspiration was deliberate and I think there's a correlation between the spirit of that music and the spirit of the holidays.
